MRS AT 19 EPISODE 1

I know you’re eager to meet me, relax I’ll tell you all there is to know about me and my life, that’s why we’re here anyways.

Let me start with a proper introduction.

I am Mary-Jane, a 19 year old student of the National open university, I am married with a son… surprised? Ahnahn don’t be now, I already promised to tell you all about it.

Anyway, grab some popcorn let me tell you the most painfully sweet tale you’ve ever heard. This is my story….

I had just taken my WAEC exams and had seen the result of my UTME exams where I did excellently well by hitting a 245. That ‘wow’ that just crossed your lips, I got that a lot when everyone heard my score. But you see, the annoying thing was they would now start asking questions like “are you a science or an art student?” When I say”art”, with a little frown on their faces they would ask “you want to study law right?” A few others would assume it was mass communication. My answer was always a polite “No ma, I’m going in for theatre arts”… yeeeeaaaaahhhh, e shock you too? Next I would hear something like”you want to go and waste your time on that?” or “so you want to go and join Nollywood?”

Of course not!

I Quit explaining myself to people and always gave a polite smile each time they voiced their concerns and opinions. Luckily for me, my mom and sister who were my only family as at then believed in me because I was the drama queen of the house from birth. When I say I was a drama queen, hmm I was crowned with an award.
