The next day was a Saturday but I begged Grace to come to school so I could see her. When she arrived and I told her what my mother had said, she was silent.
“Grace talk na, you’re not saying anything”
“I don’t have anything to say MJ, your mother has said it all”
“But Absalom already knows he has a son na, what’s the need to take Nathan to him?”
“He knows already how? Did you tell him?”
“No joor. He saw me with Nathan at the vigil”
“MJ, just because someone saw you with a baby doesn’t verify if that baby is yours or not”
I thanked her reluctantly and went home worried. “God what kind of wahala is this now? Can’t someone’s life just go smoothly for once?” I soliloquized pacing the living room.
I hadn’t been to church since the vigil incidence so I told my mom I was going to take Nathan to church so Absalom could see him but she refused and said it was unethical to do so. Guess what? She said I should invite Absalom over to the house, that was the most absurd thing I had heard my mother say.
I obeyed anyway, calling Absalom and telling him I had a surprise for him but he had to come to my house after service on Sunday. I could hear he was skeptical from his voice but he promised to make it. I dropped Nathan in the house and went to church just for the purpose of bringing Absalom to my house. After the service, we returned home together and the minute I opened the door, he stopped in his tracks.
